In 2012 the Sussex Symphony Orchestra were delighted to welcome Nigel Kennedy as Orchestra President, following in the footsteps of the great Sir Charles Mackerras.

Nigel Kennedy, Orchestra President of Sussex Symphony Orchestra

“It is the players’ ambition and commitment that impresses me. Getting music out there, giving as many people in Sussex as possible the chance to listen or play. I wish them every success.” Nigel Kennedy

Nigel Kennedy was born in Brighton and has become one of the leading violinists of his generation. A powerful force in attracting new audiences to classical music, he is also famous for his multiple talents in the crossover realm. Celebrated for his virtuoso performance in the best-selling classical recording of all time, Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons”, he is equally at home with jazz, Klezmer, rock, easy listening and electronic music.

On becoming President of the SSO, Nigel Kennedy said: “This orchestra gives people who love playing, but may not play professionally, the opportunity to perform to a very high standard. Any group of musicians that has such passion and enthusiasm for music has my backing and I am proud to support them.”
